Deval Patrick in Fitchburg
In an interview with the Sentinel & Enterprise Deval Patrick addressed the topic of campaign advertising among many other issues:
Patrick said he has more than $2 million in his campaign chest, but is not ready to start a television advertising campaign like his rivals have.
“I think to some extent it’s to bait us into spending before we should because if we jump in now we may not be able to keep up at the end,” he said of their decisions.
Keeping your advertising powder dry. A great plan, especially when you have an army of grassroots volunteers going door-to-door talking to voters and getting your message out. I’ve canvassed in Lowell, Groton, Lunenburg and Townsend and I’ve seen first hand how effective this plan can be. People really do appreciate the personal touch. Many people are just starting to think about the race, and we’re able to give them information about Deval that will give them a good foundation for when the TV ads start.
Music gets me pumped up for canvassing — today’s selection: A Change is Gonna Come from Tina Turner Live in Paris 1987. Robert Cray has a smokin’ guitar solo.
