Immigration boycott comes to North Central Mass.
The Sentinel & Enterprise is reporting that more than 150 people will be participating in a demonstration to support immigration rights.
The march started in Central Plaza in Fitchburg and ended at the upper common. The march broke up just as I was driving by to pick my son up at school. Looked like they had a good sized crowd too.
My family on my father’s side is originally from Mexico. Being from California, this is not unusual. Growing up in Orange County, California, I was surrounded by latin culture. Legal and illegal immigrants are a fact of life in So. Calif. I went to school with many immigrants, and not just from Mexico, but from all over Latin America and points beyond. I know that we have to be careful about our borders, but I honestly do not know how I feel about this issue. I am completely torn. On the one hand, I know we have to prevent people from entering our country illegally, but on the other hand, if I lived in a poor country and I thought I could make things easier for my family if I moved North — I’d do it. In a heartbeat.
Congrats on the new digs! I’ve been in hiding for a few days away from the internet. But it was a niiiiice weekend. I went shopping!
