Kerry Healey: Confused by the Constitution?
Well, it’s comforting to know that at least some Republicans in this state have a grasp of how the constitution protects us all — regardless of guilt or innocence. In today’s Boston Globe Republican former Suffolk County DA Ralph Martin II reminds us of that:
I never thought that serving the ideals of the Constitution made you soft or tough on crime. In this gubernatorial race, it is important for the voters to recognize that the governor should aspire to serve the ideals of the Constitution because it is the Constitution that governs us all. Respecting the Constitution doesn’t make you soft or tough — it only makes you just and fair.
Just and fair. Which is something all politicians should aspire to. Look, I get the competition aspect of this race. Each candidate wants to win, but at what cost to us? Why is it that in order to be competitive, Kerry Healey needs to drag Deval Patrick through the mud? I’ll tell you. Because that’s all she’s got. She can’t run on her record. She has no understanding of what it means to govern. All she has are lies, distortions and innuendo. Not terribly inspiring.
But we all knew this was coming. Deval said as much the night he won the primary.
Now, I look forward to the coming contest. Are you ready? I’m looking forward, I’m looking forward. You bet your life we can. In the next seven weeks, there is a contest coming between me and Kerry Healey, and Christy Mihos, and Grace Ross. And I look forward to comparing our leadership experience, our records and our visions for the future of our state. I don’t have all the answers, no candidate does, but I do bring a broader range of leadership experience in government, in business, in non-profits, in community groups than any other candidate in this race. I know it will be a vigorous debate. I hope it will be a valuable one too. A contest of ideas and not insults, of discussion, and not distortion, of meaning and not just money, because you deserve and Massachusetts badly needs to best we have.
That’s my MF governor.
