Vennochi gets it right.
Joan Vennochi’s column today is entitled, “Fear and loathing in gubernatorial politics.” It’s good stuff about how Kerry Healey is following the predictable GOP strategy of not being able to compete with Deval Patrick on the issues, so she has to resort to fearmongering:
Recent polls show that voters like Deval Patrick, her Democratic opponent.
To try to change that, Healey is following a generic, right-wing Republican script. It goes like this:
If you’re a Democrat, you are automatically in favor of breaking open the jail cells and letting every criminal run free. If you’re a Democrat, you will let illegal immigrants flood the borders, driver’s licenses in hand. If you’re a Democrat, the first thing that you will do is raise taxes. If you’re a Democrat, you are in cahoots with the Legislature, simply because you met with legislative leaders.
Yawn. So. Very. Predictable.
Is anyone surprised by this? Kerry Healey is an empty suit. Her job in the last four years has largely consisted of trying to look interested in the bullshit Mitt Romney shovels. Now the GOP is getting nervous and have defaulted to the only plan they have: Fear. Anger. Divisiveness.
I think the only real shocker here is the fact that Kerry Healey has managed so far to derail the coverage of this race from actual issues to the shocking, yes, shocking I tell you, news that Deval Patrick, who has a long distinguished record of advocating for civil rights — advocated for the civil rights of a convicted felon.
Yes, Kerry — even convicted felons have rights too. America. What a country.
Can you smell the fear? I sure can. Or has Mitt handed Sherry Kerry the shovel now?

Dems are finally starting to shine a light on all this Repub hypocrisy …
Limbaugh : blames societal problems on drug addicts
DeLay : returning values / righteousness to government
Foley : protecting kids from sexual predators
What’s happened during this last administration is sick-making. We gotta make it stop! My only question: what took so long for people to listen? Fear: the Repubs sure know how to use it.

We need to shine the light brighter and faster. We’re reacting to the news cycle instead of being proactive. It’s not like a huge surprise that Healey would go after Deval’s NAACP record.
I think people are starting to get fear-fatigue and they are looking for something different. Even though some voters don’t agree with Deval on key issues, they are going to vote for him because they are tired of the Romney/Healey baloney and don’t have any confidence that Muffy would be any different.
