So how was your Tuesday?
I was working today with Lynne in her office which is in an old converted mill in Lowell. The buildings are very cool, but are very old, and not so much with the modern conveniences like a normal elevator. So when I was walking downstairs to leave, I managed to make it down the four flights of stairs to the entry level incident-free, but as I was rounding the corner to the hallway exit, a lady appeared suddenly. I must have surprised her because she nearly jumped out of her skin. Which startled me and made it necessary for me to step to the side.
Unfortunately, the old concrete floor was very uneven, and I managed to twist my ankle (again… I also twisted the same ankle slightly when we were gallivanting in Boston at Governor Patrick’s website kick-off last weekend), which made me lose my balance. Needless to say everything I was holding went flying. My bag flew one way, and my computer went the other. The bottle of water I was holding hit the wall so hard it burst.
So there I am lying on the ground and what does this lady do? She leaves. Nice.
I managed to collect myself and my stuff and limp out to my car and drive myself to the hospital. Good thing it was my left ankle that I twisted and not the right side, or I wouldn’t be able to drive.
I got poked, and x-rayed. Final score: 1 fractured ankle, 2 skinned and bruised knees, 1 badly bruised hand with bonus wrist swelling, 1 scraped hand and 1 small cut on my chin. Today, I’m off to see the orthopedist.
It’s hell getting old.

I’m so sorry my building attacked you. I hope you still come back!!

I can see the art of helping someone in need surely went out the window (or in your case, down the stairs) when this mishap occurred. Sorry you were left alone, in pain, to deal with the situation.
Heal fast, my friend!

I did almost the same thing around Faneuil Hall
– sans break but with high heels, we had just had a hot dog after a night at the comedy connection.
Though I have linked to your blog for a while I am just really reading it today —
heal well!
